How the Vaporetto Works
The Vaporetto is Venice's official water bus, operated by ACTV, available as a single ticket or as a multi-day pass for 24, 48, 72 hours, or 7 days.
Buy Online
Choose the right Vaporetto ticket – from a 75-minute single ticket to a 7-day pass. Book conveniently online in advance and skip the queues at the ticket machines during peak season. After purchase, you will receive a voucher with a QR code by email, which you can easily save on your smartphone.
Collect Your Ticket
Use the voucher to collect your physical ACTV ticket at a ticket machine or Venezia Unica counter – for example, directly at Piazzale Roma, at Santa Lucia main station, or at larger Vaporetto stops such as San Marco or Rialto.
Validate Your Ticket
The ticket is only activated upon first use. Hold it in front of the card reader at the entrance to the stop before boarding – the chosen validity period starts from this moment of validation. A 24-hour ticket validated at 2:00 PM is valid until 2:00 PM the following day.
Experience Venice
Explore Venice and the lagoon without limits: all Vaporetto lines on the Grand Canal, the water buses to Murano, Burano, and Lido, as well as the city buses in Mestre and on Lido. Simply hold your ticket up to the scanner when boarding – that's it.

The ticket is only activated on first use, not at the time of purchase. As soon as you hold it against the card reader at the dock when boarding, the validity begins. From that moment, your chosen period (75 minutes, 24, 48 or 72 hours, or 7 days) starts counting down. You can therefore buy tickets online in advance and only activate them when you actually need them.
You can buy Vaporetto tickets at the machines at every major stop, at ACTV and Venezia Unica counters (e.g. at Santa Lucia main station, Piazzale Roma and St. Mark's Square), or conveniently online in advance. When buying online, you receive a voucher with a QR code on your smartphone and avoid queuing at the machines – especially recommended during peak season.
If you take the Vaporetto more than twice a day, you'll save money from the third journey onwards. It's particularly worthwhile if you want to travel along the Canal Grande and also visit the lagoon islands of Murano or Burano in the same day. For longer stays, the 48-hour, 72-hour or 7-day tickets are almost always cheaper than buying single fares.
Yes! The famous Line 1, which slowly travels the entire Canal Grande and stops at every station, is included with every Vaporetto ticket. You can also use the express Line 2 with the same ticket. A ride on Line 1 from the main station to St. Mark's Square takes about 45 minutes and is quite possibly the most beautiful "bus tour" in Europe – almost like an affordable city sightseeing trip.
Children up to and including 5 years of age travel free of charge. From their 6th birthday, children pay the full adult price – unfortunately there is no standard child discount in the Vaporetto system. Wheelchair users pay a reduced fare of €1.50, and their accompanying person travels free of charge.
Yes, with the Vaporetto day ticket you can reach Murano, Burano, Torcello and Lido – all islands are within the city area and are included in the ticket. Please note: Marco Polo Airport is not included. For that, you will need a separate Alilaguna ticket, as the airport water bus is operated by a different company.
